Goodtask manual1/19/2024 The experiment is still ongoing and I’d say I’m 50/50 on whether I’ll revert back to Things 3 or stick with Reminders. *Perhaps some comes from ignorance, and if so, I’d love to hear of a better method! I’m also afraid that eventually Reminders will get treated as feature-complete and development will stop. Cultured Code moves at a snail’s pace, but at least they release more often. Reminders gets a ‘Big Bang’ release once a year. The UI is difficult to read on macOS and you can’t increase the font size.I’m guessing I can string something together with Mail.app + AppleScript, though. Reminders lacks a “mail to add” feature. Why can’t I sort by due date, followed by title? I miss being able to hide someday/maybe tasks. For example, the UI for dragging reminders within macOS has weird drag point that make you feel like you’re using a web app like Todoist, while on iPadOS it feels natural. Subtasks, Repeat after Completion & Manual sort (GoodTask 3 only) To expand the ability of GoodTask, I chose to add a text snippet that can be shown on notes field in Reminders app. The app seems to fit best on iPadOS which makes the macOS version feel clunky in comparison.I miss being able to have a task repeat x days after it’s marked for completion.Yes, I know I can use the ‘share’, InstaRemind, Fantastical, etc., but they don’t fill in all of the details from the app that I’m currently in. I wish there was a system-wide command like Things Helper.Sure, I can flag items, but often times I just want a task to disappear until a certain date. Why are some of the fields so hidden from editing, while at the same time the UI displays fields that I wish I could hide so lists were more legible? What I dislike (or miss/prefer more in Things 3)*: Sharing lists with my wife is great, especially for household chores and finances. The repeating options are pretty nice, especially “last day of the month”, which is perfect for bills.Being able to scan an image and have it included is great, especially for receipts.I can mark a reminder as completed ‘early’.Smart lists are useful (though I wish you could say “any tag except x” in iPadOS 16).Notifications when getting in / out of the car are also pretty neat. ‘When Messaging’ has been great because I am an active iMessage user. The breakdown of morning/afternoon/evening is nice in iPadOS/iOS 16 (though I wish you could tweak the times for each). My iPadOS widgets refresh in the background (versus having to launch the app first). My data is kept within my iCloud account.Integration with other applications, especially Fantastical.I’ve been challenging myself to exclusively use Reminders for the past two weeks (I blame because he keeps talking about it!) after being a staunch user of Things 3.
